Liposuction

This procedure involves the removal of fat cells from different areas of the body, which may include the chin, neck, abdomen, flanks, hips, thighs, buttocks, upper arms, and knees. Liposuction removes fat cells not cellulite (the “cottage cheese” bumps). Liposuction may be used for select candidates for breast reduction or male breast enlargement (gynecomastia). Summit Plastic Surgery Fort Wayne uses the tumescent method of liposuction, which is the preferred option with little blood loss, less bruising, and less discomfort. Not everyone is a candidate for liposuction. Discuss with your Summit Plastic Surgery surgeon which procedure may benefit you. Liposuction is not a substitute for exercising or a cure for overeating.

Liposuction: Common Questions

Am I a candidate for liposuction?
If you are near your ideal weight and have a problem pocket of fat in a certain area, then liposuction might be the procedure for you. The doctors do not perform liposuction for weight loss or to replace exercise, but to improve body contours and proportion. If your skin is loose or sagging then liposuction would not be the procedure for you.

How much time will I need off work?
The doctors usually recommend one week off work following liposuction surgery.

What will my restrictions be following surgery?
You will be up walking the evening of surgery. You must have a driver to take you home, and someone needs to be with you for the first twenty four hours after surgery. You will need to wear a compression garment for four to six weeks after surgery to help with swelling and bruising.

Will fat collect in those areas again?
With a healthy diet, exercise, and maintenance of your weight, the results should last.

Will I see immediate results?
Because of swelling and bruising, your result will continue to improve for several months following the procedure.
