Fat Transfer: Common Questions
Are fat injections safe for everyone?
Yes, it is your own fat taken from another area of your body. You must tell the doctor if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
How long does the procedure take?
Usually an hour or less depending on the areas to be treated. Part of the time required is for the processing of the harvested fat to be re-injected.
How long does the fat injection last?
A portion of the fat will last indefinitely, but some will be reabsorbed by your body. Touch-up and follow-up injections can help sustain your desired degree of correction.
Are there any special restrictions after the injections?
Avoid exposure to extreme heat, such as sunbathing or tanning booths. Avoid exercise and alcohol for six hours. Avoid aspirin medications, St John’s Wort, and high doses of Vitamin E supplements for one week. Avoid vigorous contact with the treated area for six hours. Apply cold compresses to help reduce swelling and redness.
